Restaurant Review – Max Brenner (Melbourne)

Published September 7, 2010 by Mary Jane

Honestly, I’m not a coffee drinker nor a tea drinker when it comes to night time. Why? Cos I can’t sleep if I drink either at night. So usually I’ll opt for the hot chocolate with some nice dessert to compliment this. I love Max Brenner and I wish they have them in Perth..but no we have nothing in Perth, no star bucks, no krispy creme, no max brenner and the list goes on…so it was my opportunity of getting a double dose of Max Brenner!!!

As usual on a weeknight, the place is packed…and you know this place is popular even on a week night? Why cos of the lovely goodness of Chocolates 🙂

What I love about this place is the moment you step inside the restaurant, the aroma of both Belgian waffles and chocolate just makes you salivate. You get to see this large machine churning the delicious hot chocolate sauce…

Now you have to choose your order and pay at the front counter and they hand you a table stand and will bring out your goodies. I usually go for the usual Belgian waffles with strawberries and icecream – this is my favourite and we decided to try out the crepes as well.

When we received our desserts, we were stoked – both looks great…but when it comes down to taste the Belgian waffle is a winner – the waffle not like the ones you get from Gelare they are actually crispy on the outside and chewy on the inside and it goes so well with the delicious mouth watering chocolate sauce…..on the other hand the banana crepe isn’t too bad either, but I must admit due to the temperature of the crepes it makes the banana really mushy and it just didn’t give that chewing texture but it’s well accompanied by the delicious mouth watering chocolate sauce 🙂

For drinks, as I’ve mentioned I’m a regular hot chocolate drinker – this time I decided to try something different – a hot chocolate with mini waffles inside in a hug mug. I was thinking are they going to dunk the waffles into the hot chocolate drink? Not quite…

Well when it arrived it really surprised me, there were just these little round chocolate bubbles floating on top of my hot chocolate and I spooned some out and tasted them – they are just like rice bubbles except coated with chocolate. To be honest, I was a little disappointed I was imagining it to have a huge waffle inside it…but I guess, that’s just kinda weird too. I ended up fishing all the chocolate rice bubbles out and eat them separately and then drink my hot chocolate. I think I prefer the ordinary hot chocolate…

Look, it’s a casual cafe with excellent desserts and if you ask me it’s definitely one of the places you must visit for a cup of hot chocolate and their famous Belgian waffle…

Cafe Restaurant Review – Lindt Cafe

Published February 12, 2010 by Mary Jane

Okies, as I’ve mentioned earlier I had a great time in Sydney eating. So at night time our cousins took us to Lindt Cafe. I was really excited cos I love the Lindt Chocolates and to be able to go to the Lindt Cafe is a bonus for me 🙂 So when you walk into the Cafe there’s like chocolates everywhere with the display of desserts & cakes in the glass window case. You can even purchase the chocolates as well. Great for chocolate people. As I’ve mentioned I’m not a chocolate person, but I love things that has chocolate in them – like chocolate biscuits, chocolate yoghurt, chocolate cake and chocolate icecream but just not chocolate itself. Apart from Gullivan & Lindt Chocolates I’ll eat one or two of them. So we ofcourse ordered some chocolate related items for desserts. We had chocolate flavoured Waffles served with icecream, it even comes with a chocolate sauce and you can pour this onto the waffle and have as much chocolate sauce as you like. We also had some chocolate & Hazelnut cake which was divine, very smooth and delicious. I had ice chocolate for my drink and it’s kinda different to the ones I usually get in Perth. It’s got lots of cocoa or chocolate powders – it’s definitely very rich in chocolate, but it was yummy. As for the desserts they were fantastic. If you’re sitting outside you get to see these metal cranes with water sprinkling up and down very entertaining.

So here’s my rating for the Cafe:

Restaurant Review – The Blue Duck Cafe

Published January 25, 2010 by Mary Jane

Okies, I’ve just had some lunch it’s been busy today…now it’s quiet I’ll just continue on with the restaurant review. You guys will have to wait until I head towards USA and Canada for food traveling details in March. Anyways, we had some relatives over from Malaysia and we decided to take them to cottesloe beach to have some brekkie. I’ve been to The Blue Duck Cafe before but haven’t been for a while so it was good to go there again and see what the food is like.

So we got there…I was starving so I decided to have the blue duck cafe works – it has everything – eggs, sausages, hash brown, bacon and toast. You can also choose bacon with eggs only with toast. I felt like some dessert as their cakes looks really yummy. So the relatives had some carrot cake and it was yummy. I wanted to try the orange flourless cake – it was dense and moist – delicious…wasn’t too heavy. To everything went well the service was good. Plus the view was great you can see the beach from the restaurant. 🙂
