Restaurant Review – Masuya Japanese Seafood Restaurant

Published February 11, 2010 by Mary Jane

Hello again, well since I’m in the mindset of Sydney and Pandabear has came home with some lovely buttermilk flavoured icecream but no insect cream – I have some energy to do my last posting for the night. This Restaurant is based in Sydney a friend took us there. It’s considered fine dining cos they only accept bookings of either 6.30pm or 8.30pm and apparently if you book 6.30pm you have to leave by 8.30pm for the next lot of customers to come. How bizarre!! We arrived there on time cos our friend told us if we don’t rock up on time they will give our table away. So we made sure we weren’t fashionably late. The waiters set us down, they appeared nearly all Japanese as they have a Japanese accent when they spoke English. We waited for our food the place was packed by 6.30pm and we had some rainbow sushi, I was wondering what they were?? Until I saw them coming out oh I see they are very colourful sushi rice wrapped around different color and cuts of the fish wow that’s the first time I saw rainbow sushi. However, I wasn’t keen on sashimi and this rainbow sushi attracted me with it’s look and not it’s taste. However, I’m sure for all the sushi raw fish lovers out there this dish is definitely for you. Fortunately, our friend was clever enough to detect my dislike for sashimi and ordered the normal style of sushi. For mains we had teriyaki salmon with waigu beef. Very nicely done the salmon was tender not flaky and the waigu beef was not over done very tender and succulent. Very nice indeed 🙂

Now, since the serving of the dishes wasn’t that big and it was like 7.30pm already and we still have some time to kill so we decided to have some dessert. 4 of us had an individual dessert, there was red bean with mo-chi served with icecream, green tea brulee, taro icecream with fruits and red bean soup with white glutenous rice balls. They were delicious, very well done not too sweet and just right. 🙂 I was very impressed with the food. Here’s my rating:

Dining Experience: 3.5 star
Food Experience: 4 star
Would I recommend: Absolutely YES

Well, overall the food was great but as for service wise – I didn’t liked the idea of only been able to choose either to book 6.30pm or 8.30pm and been restricted to get out of the restaurant by 8.30pm if you dine at 6.30pm. The waiting time was pretty average too, maybe cos they were quite packed that night. But the mains & dessert made up for the dining experience. So it’s worth checking this restaurant out next time you’re in Sydney. Okies it’s bed time for me. Good night everyone sweet FOOD dreams 🙂
